Oak Harbor High School 2020 Senior Camryn had a wide variety of locations that she wished to include throughout her senior portrait experience.  I was delighted she desired a portion of her portraits to take place at the Marblehead Lighthouse!  Sun kissed and fresh off a vacation I met with Camryn in the later part of August to capture her summer set of portraits.  Camryn is without a doubt an unforgettable girl.  Her unique eyes draw you in and her laugh is infectious.  She is equal parts silly and fierce. Enjoy some of my favorites from my time with this barefoot beauty!

Camryn, I loved being a part of your senior year!  Enjoy these last few months of high school and best wishes for what lies ahead.

Tips to Prepare for your Spring Portrait Session / Toledo, Ohio Family Photographer https://kellylindsayphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2020/1/tips-to-prepare-for-your-spring-portrait-session-/-toledo-ohio-family-photographer "No matter how long the Winter, Spring is sure to follow."

January is oh so close to coming to an end and soon we will be welcoming the month of February.  Here in Northwest Ohio our winter thus far has been scarce.  Rain has been more plentiful than snow leaving our area often dreary and dark.  As a resident of Ohio my entire life, I welcome snow each and every winter.  During the years when we find ourselves without the beauty of falling snowflakes that leave us in a picturesque winter wonderland my thoughts quickly turn to those of warmer months and the welcoming of spring.

My photography planner is beginning to fill with anticipated spring portrait sessions.  Today I am sharing a few tips to help make planning for your spring session less stressful allowing for flawless spring portraits!  Here we go...

1.  Wear layers.  Spring can be finicky in the sense that we can go from frigid to flushed in a matter of minutes.  For spring portraits I suggest wearing layers-tank tops, tee shirts, cardigans, jackets, and lightweight scarves.  This allows family members to peel off, or add, a layer to remain comfortable throughout our session.

2.  Location, location, location.  Ideally, we are going to be taking advantage of the fresh, warm air and all the colorful buds popping up from the ground and in the trees.  Clients might be surprised the various portraits we can capture with one lone tree in bloom!  If you have a favorite location, let me know.  I have a nice list on hand as well.  Together, we can find the ideal backdrop for your portrait needs!

3.  Play into the colors of the season when selecting your outfits.  Fresh pops of green, blue, pink, and yellow pair well with the beautiful color we find around us when spring hits.  For family portraits I recommend choosing an overall color theme for your entire crew, then slightly deviating from that with the addition of accessories to keep your portraits visually pleasing.

4.  Speaking of accessories....wear them!  Accessorize your outfits with jewelry, scarves, hats, and belts that play into the spring theme.  Butterflies, flowers, and even cute insects (hello...mama of 5 boys!) can make for adorable family portraits!

5.  Props have their place.  Spring offers some lovely backdrops where props blend in perfectly without distracting.  For example, worn wooden chairs and crates look stunning in a sea of blooms.  A pastel quilt can be ideal atop fresh, green grass.  We can get creative with bubbles (great for young children) or even a fresh bouquet of blooms that we can incorporate into posing.  Interested in adding a tasteful prop to your session?  Feel free to inquire what chairs, crates, and quilts I have on hand!

6.  Finally, take into careful consideration your footwear.  Spring often provides us with a soggy ground.  Flip flops and heels may not be the best decision when planning for your portrait session.  Often, flats, boots, and sandals are more spring appropriate.

Kennen's Senior Portrait Session at The Toledo Museum of Art https://kellylindsayphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2020/1/kennens-senior-portrait-session-at-the-toledo-art-museum

Say hello to Kennen, a soon to be 2020 graduate of Toledo Christian Schools come this Spring!

I was so elated when Kennen's mom reached out to schedule her only son's senior portraits. A few year ago I photographed her oldest daughter's senior portraits and we met again for family portraits. When I had the opportunity to meet the entire family I quickly learned they were FUN and even better FUNNY! As with most families that include multiple children, I love seeing various personalities come to light in front of my camera.

Kennen, the middle child of the family (and only boy), "marches to the beat of his own drum" to quote mom and I LOVE that about him! With an artistic eye he loves videography while also being cast as The Beast in his school's musical production of "Beauty and the Beast". To round out his school involvement he is also one of the founders of his high school bowling team...awesome, right?!

After selecting a date for Kennen's senior portrait session it was time to discuss location.  When coordinating Kennen's senior session with his mom two key factors stood out to me as a photographer when I was offering Toledo based location suggestions for them to select from.  First, Kennen's artistic interests.  With that in mind I envisioned his senior portraits with a modern, urban feel.  Second, this Toledo Christian School senior and his mama opted for my Simple Senior Portrait Session.  This session is shorter in length compared to my Signature Senior Portrait Senior and is the PERFECT compromise between parents wanting senior portraits of their graduating son or daughter and the senior with zero desire to get in front of a camera ;)  With an approximate hour of shooting time planned I also wanted to suggest various locations that would allow for a diverse gallery while not traveling to a different location.  We agreed that The Toledo Museum of Art would serve as the ideal backdrop for Kennen's fall senior portraits.

Kennen and his mom selected three varying shirt options while also keeping it simple by bringing along one pair of pants for the duration of Kennen's session.  This is low stress, less hassle, and again the perfect compromise between mom wanting portraits for her walls and the senior fella that would rather say "no thanks" ;)  Any guesses what Kennen's standout article of clothing was that I quickly fell in love with?  Hello...that jacket!!!!  As a photographer, I LOVE layers (especially during the fall!) that create another dimension in your portraits.  Shortly before his session, Kennen acquired the occasional need for glasses (a look he is ROCKING might I add) so again we varied his overall gallery by shooting some portraits with his new specs and some without.

Kennen, it was a pleasure seeing you again. Wishing you the very best throughout the remainder of your senior year and beyond. I admire your strong will and clear head...it will take you far   I am thankful your final gallery brought a smile to your mama's face because you certainly were not keen on throwing one my way (right mom lol). Lucky you...you are handsome regardless  Thank you Lisa for taking the time to let me know in a follow up e-mail that both you and your husband agreed I captured the "true Kennen".  As a senior photographer that is one of my  goals and it does my heart good to know I have served my clients well <3

How To Prepare For Your Senior Session / Girls {Northwest Ohio Senior Photographer} https://kellylindsayphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2018/3/how-to-prepare-for-your-senior-session-/-girls-northwest-ohio-senior-photographer

Congratulations!  You have booked your senior portrait session!  Now what???  Below I have a few tips and suggestions that will help you to look your very best in front of the camera.  Follow these guidelines in the weeks leading up to your senior session and I will take care of the rest!

  • Choose two to three outfit selections for a simple senior session and approximately five to six looks for a signature senior session.  When selecting your outfits take into consideration both the time of year and location for your session.  Make sure your outfits reflect YOUR personality and style! Prior to your session make sure your clothing pieces are both clean and wrinkle free.
  • Grab a bag and pack any accessories you will want for each outfit-jewelry, scarves, hair accessories, etc.  Bring along matching socks and shoes for each outfit if one pair will not coordinate with all of your options.  Now is the time to also remember and include the proper undergarments for each outfit as well!
  • If you are planning on including any props during your session-your ballet shoes, favorite books, softball gear, etc. - go ahead and pack that as well. Are you planning on including your car during your senior session?  Be sure to wash it the night before or day of your session.
  • Get a good night's rest the evening before your session so you look well rested in your portraits.
  • If you are considering a haircut prior to your session, schedule it for one to two weeks prior to the day of your portrait session. Do not drastically change your style and/or color from your current look in the event you do not like it. Consider having the hair stylist show you some easy looks you can do during your outfit changes to showcase a greater variety of images in your overall gallery.
  • Practice your makeup the week leading up to your session so you can get it just right the day of your session.  Try to not overdo your makeup and bring along your cosmetics for any needed touch-ups.
  • Avoid self tanner.  Are you wishing you had more of a sun kissed look for your senior portraits?  Just let me know!  It is much easier for me to warm your skin tone up during the editing process versus fixing orange, blotchy skin ;)
  • Acne.  It happens.  If you wake up two days prior to your session, or the morning of, and a few unwanted visitors have graced your face-avoid making it worse by picking at it.  Apply some makeup over the area (not too heavy) and leave it at that.  All of my senior sessions include basic retouching, which includes blemish removal; so do not even think twice about those blemishes!
  • Consider getting a manicure the day before your session to ensure your nails look their best.  Do not forget the color needs to match all of your outfit selections.  For this reason, and to keep a clean appearance, I suggest going with a french manicure or a simple clear coat of paint.
  • Is your best friend, boyfriend, or sibling joining you for a few images?  Do not forget to coordinate an outfit with them to avoid clashing.
  • Do not think twice OR stress over posing.  No...REALLY!  I want you to arrive to your senior session relaxed and ready to have fun.  I will guide you through the posing process and together we will create timeless portraits you will love sharing with your family and friends!

Jake / Bellevue High School {Lake Erie Senior Photographer} https://kellylindsayphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2018/3/jake-/-bellevue-high-school-lake-erie-senior-photographer Seniors guys versus senior girls.  I have learned over the last few years that guys and girls differ when it comes time for senior portraits.  For the most part, girls are over the moon that THEIR time in front of the camera has finally arrived!  Guys, on the other hand, reluctantly agree to a senior session because  their mom wants to document this special milestone (ahem...AND they have been promised food following our time together).

However, every now and then I get a fella on my schedule who is genuinely excited for their senior portrait session.  Meet Jake, a 2018 Bellevue High School Senior, who happened to be one of the few guys I just mentioned!  Not only was Jake looking forward to his session, but he had ideas when it came to both poses and locations as well.  With the added help of his sister and mom, Jake's outfit selections were perfectly styled for our chosen locations during his summer session.

During the summer months I like to schedule my sessions to take place in the evening with a start time of an hour or two before sunset.  The lighting during this time of day is flattering and I am always hopeful we will be blessed with a beautiful sunset as well!  Jake and his family are members of Bay Point Resort and Mariana in Marblehead, Ohio. Both Jake and mom desired for a portion of Jake's summer session to take place at Bay Point Resort, a location special to them holding many memories; therefore, we started our session at the gorgeous resort that is located along the shores of the great Lake Erie.  Following our time at Bay Point we made the short drive to the ever popular Marblehead Lighthouse to finish up our evening.  After the need to reschedule our initial session due to weather, we could not have asked for a better summer night the evening of Jake's senior session!  Enjoy some of my favorite images from my time with this 2018 Bellevue High School Senior.  Does anyone else LOVE the plaid, button down shirt that Jake brought along as much as I do?  Guys...you can never go wrong with a classic button down and a fun pop of color during the summer months is fantastic!

Thank you Jake and family for selecting Kelly Lindsay Photography for your senior portrait needs!  It was a pleasure meeting all of you and I thank you for sharing your little slice of heaven along Lake Erie with me!  Jake, wishing you the very best during your remaining time at Bellevue High School and much success in your future endeavors!

Northwest Ohio and Toledo Area Senior Photographer {FAQ's} https://kellylindsayphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2018/3/northwest-ohio-and-toledo-area-senior-photographer-faqs Hello month of March!!!!  The 2017-2018 school year will be coming to a close here in Northwest Ohio in just a few short months (crazy, right?!).  I would be lying if I did not admit that my head has already headed in the direction of spring and summer.  Warmer weather is right around the corner (just ignore today's weather forecast for a moment ;) ) and I am getting numerous inquires from 2019 Seniors and their parents looking for information and many ready to schedule their Summer 2018 senior portrait session.  I would like to take a few minutes to answer some of the most popular questions many families have regarding a senior portrait session with yours truly.

Q.  What happens if I get sick or it rains?

A.  No worries!  We can always reschedule if you catch a bug or the weather does not cooperate.  Side note...did you know quite a few photographers (myself included!) love shooting on cloudy days!

Q.  How long does it take for my gallery to be completed?

A.  I strive to have sessions completed within 2-3 weeks.  During busy season (fall) please plan on a 3-4 week turnaround time. While you wait, I would love the opportunity to share a few "sneak peeks" for friends, family, and of course YOU to preview on both my Facebook and Instagram accounts.

Q.  Will I get the digital images from my session?  A print release?

A.  Yes, all of my senior portrait sessions include your edited, full resolution digital images delivered via digital download.  A print release with printing recommendations is included as well.  Don't wish to order prints on your own?  Clients have the option of ordering prints and products thru me!

Q.  How many outfit changes am I allowed?

A.  I place no restrictions on the number of outfit selections you include in your session; however, I like to remind clients that the time they spend changing is part of their session time.  I recommend to clients 2-3 outfit selections for the one hour session and 5-6 for the 2.5 hour session.

Q.  I have no idea location wise where I would like my session to take place!  Do you have suggestions?

A.  YES!  Are you looking for a rustic location?  Urban?  Do you love water?  We are blessed in Northwest Ohio to live along the great Lake Erie and many beautiful rivers run through our area.  We live within close proximity to numerous Ohio State Parks and Toledo Metroparks that offer a multitude of backgrounds.  Who knows...the location just right for YOU might be your very own backyard!  During our phone consultation or in person meeting I would be happy to discuss my personal favorite locations with you.

Q.  Can I bring a friend along to my session?

A.  I highly recommend to my clients to invite a friend to join them during our time together.  More often than not your best bud helps to put you at ease and in doing so helps me to bring out the best in YOU!  Your next question may be something along the lines of "Can my friend/boyfriend jump in for a few images?" and my answer is OF COURSE!

Q.  I have no idea what to wear!  Can you help?

A.  Oh goodness, YES!  Again, during our phone consultation or in person meeting we can discuss clothing, make up, accessories, etc.  I will be more than happy to share my "Do's and Don'ts" along with any recommendations I have.  My number one piece of advice when it comes to selecting your outfits is to STAY TRUE TO YOU!

Q.  I would like to see more of your work!  Do you have a senior portfolio?

A.  I do!  Check it out right HERE!  As always, you can stay up to date with my latest work on both Facebook and Instagram (@kellylindsayphotography).

Q.  Is there a retainer to secure my session date?

A.  Yes, all sessions require a $50 retainer fee to hold your session date.  This fee is due within 5 business days.  Your remaining balance is due at the time of our session.

Q.  I am ready to book!  What is the best way to get on your schedule?

A.  Fantastic!  Please e-mail [email protected] to get on my planner.  I can assure you our time together will be fun!

Suzie/ Oak Harbor Ohio Senior Portraits {Northwest Ohio Senior Photographer} https://kellylindsayphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2018/2/suzie/-oak-harbor-ohio-senior-portraits-northwest-ohio-senior-photographer I am thrilled to share Suzie's gorgeous session with all of you today!  The last Senior session I shared here on the blog featured a KLP Simple Senior session.  However, today I am sharing one of my sweet and stunning 2018 Seniors who scheduled a full-blown Signature Senior session.

Suzie, a 2018 Senior at Oak Harbor, has a lovely style!  The evening of our session she brought along a wide variety of outfit selections for our our time together.  With that in mind, we moved around to a few different locations, allowing us the opportunity to work with a variety of backdrops that would pair well with Suzie's vast wardrobe.  While I love Simple Senior sessions as a means to challenge myself to work within one location, I equally enjoy the flexibility a Signature Senior session gives myself and my client.  The evening of Suzie's session we worked with urban alleys, downtown buildings, brick walls, fields of tall grass, a beautiful pond, sand, our great Lake Erie, and so much more.  This gorgeous Oak Harbor High School Senior's session pretty much had it all!

Suzie, a huge THANK YOU to you and your mom enough for choosing me as your senior photographer.  You are truly a sweetheart and beautiful from the inside out!  Wishing you the very best during these last few months of high school and in all your future endeavors!

Marblehead Lighthouse Senior Portrait Session {Port Clinton Ohio Senior Photographer} https://kellylindsayphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2018/1/marblehead-lighthouse-senior-portrait-session-port-clinton-ohio-senior-photographer Did you know that Kelly Lindsay Photography offers a one hour Simple Senior Session in addition to the KLP Signature Senior Session that is two and a half hours in length?  Our Simple Senior Portrait session allows for one location with 2-3 outfit selections.  Over the last year our Simple Senior session has gained in popularity with those Northwest Ohio Seniors who have a simpler taste or clients that are opting for a second (or even third!) seasonal portrait session to document their high school experience.  Additionally, this one hour session is the perfect compromise between the Senior guy who wants little to do with being in front of the camera and Mom who desires Senior portraits of her "baby" ;)

Drew, a 2018 Senior at Tiffin Columbian and his parents elected to schedule a Simple Senior session and I am excited to share my favorite images from our time together!  While Drew and his family reside in Tiffin, Ohio they frequent the shores of Lake Erie for family fun spending time on their boat, visiting local eateries, etc.  With the shores and beaches of Lake Erie holding special meaning to their family, they opted for Drew's session to take place at the always popular (and beautiful) Marblehead Lighthouse.

The evening of our mid August portrait session left us with gorgeous weather and beautiful light to work with.  Soon after meeting Drew I was drawn to his laid back personality, unique style, and stellar smile!  I will let Drew's portraits speak for themselves...ENJOY!

Thank you Drew (and family) for scheduling your Senior portraits with KLP!  It was a pleasure meeting the three of you...truly!  Wishing you the very best in these final months of high school and great success in your future endeavors.

Now Booking Class of 2019 Northwest Ohio and Toledo Area High School Seniors https://kellylindsayphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2018/1/now-booking-class-of-2019-northwest-ohio-and-toledo-area-high-school-seniors Hello Class of 2019!!!

It is that time of year again! Who wants to get a jump start on their Senior year? A frequent question asked by parents of upcoming High School Seniors is WHEN should their son or daughter schedule their Senior portrait session for. The majority of the Seniors I work with are photographed the summer prior to the start of their Senior year. From previous experience (and talking with parents of past KLP Seniors) your child's Senior year is often a busy one! For those students active in sports, band, choir, etc. it can be difficult to schedule your Senior's portrait session between practices, games, and performances once the school year is in session. I strongly encourage families to consider scheduling a 2018 summer session for their 2019 High School Senior. In doing so you can breathe a little easier knowing you already have one task checked off that "To Do" list that comes along with the Senior year experience

I am excited to announce that my Summer 2018 calendar is now open for scheduling! Do you want to learn more about a custom Senior portrait experience for YOUR 2019 Senior? Hop on over to the Contact page or e-mail [email protected] to request a digital copy of my Senior Portrait Welcome Guide!

Congratulations Northwest Ohio 2017 Graduates {Ohio Senior Photographer} https://kellylindsayphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2017/5/congratulations-northwest-ohio-2017-graduates-ohio-senior-photographer Congratulations to all of the AMAZING 2017 High School Graduates I had the opportunity to work with throughout the last year. I can say without a doubt in the last 12 months I truly fell in love with photographing Seniors. While the majority of these young ladies and gentleman are soon to be graduates of Oak Harbor, I was also blessed to work with students from Norwalk, Danbury, Port Clinton, Clyde, Toledo Christian Schools, and Lakota. For that I am humbled and most grateful.

Thank you to each and every one of you for allowing me to capture this beautiful time in your life. I thank you for sharing your stories with me and then allowing me to tell them thru images. It was an honor. I have become friends with many of you and your parents thru Facebook and Instagram. In doing so I have continued to follow your stories. The concerts, the games, the matches, the recitals. I have learned of your future plans and my heart swells for each journey that lies ahead. And yes there were a few tears shed seeing prom pictures, pictures of you with your proud parents, and of friendships that began years ago...that shouldn't surprise most of you at this point

Congrats and Best Wishes,
Kelly

Shannah/ Oak Harbor High School {Oak Harbor Ohio Senior Portrait Session} https://kellylindsayphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2017/5/shannah/-oak-harbor-high-school-oak-harbor-ohio-senior-portrait-session Welcome back!  Today I have a pretty special session to share with you.  The beautiful Miss Shannah!  This gal kicked off my Senior 2017 sessions and we did it with a bang.  I worked with her older brother a few years prior...in fact his session was one that made me realize I LOVE working with high school seniors!  I was excited when Mom invited me back over to their home and neighboring area to photograph their daughter.  The area is ideal to me...tall grass, old barn, and gorgeous summer light in the evenings!

Shannah is one of those gals you easily like.  She has an outgoing personality, genuine smile, and is up for anything.  She’s confident, both when chatting about school and life, and when she’s standing by herself in the middle of a field getting her photo taken.  Working with her makes my job pretty effortless!  Enjoy some of my favorites from her session...including those with a pig (a first for me!).

Thank you Shannah, Mom, and friend for a beautiful summer evening!  I consider it a great honor to have captured both of your children's high school senior portraits.  The four of you are one of the kindest (and funniest) families I have ever worked with!  Stop back to see more of Shannah when I share the Fall portion of her Senior session in the weeks to come!  Shannah, wishing you an early Congratulations on your upcoming graduation from Oak Harbor High School!  You have worked hard and I am excited for what the future holds for you!

Tieler / Norwalk High School {Sandusky, Ohio Senior Portrait Session} https://kellylindsayphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2017/5/tieler-/-norwalk-high-school-sandusky-ohio-senior-portrait-session Every now and then a session comes along and within the first few images I know for certain it will result in my new favorite gallery.  Such was the case when I worked with the beautiful Tieler (Tie for short), a 2017 graduate of Norwalk High School.  Having worked with Tie's family in the past during a couple of family portrait sessions I already knew of her sweet personality, kind heart, and her natural beauty.  The weather could not have been more perfect the evening of Tie's session and coupled with the most amazing outfit selections...well, her session was a dream come true for this photographer.

We found some new favorite locations of mine (insert happy dance) while shooting Tie's senior portraits in downtown Sandusky, Ohio.  With the turn of every street corner a new area called out to me.  Enjoy some of my favorites from Tie's session!

For Tie's first outfit she selected a beautifully colored maxi dress.  Prior to our session I spent some time Googling areas within downtown Sandusky and came across the most unique brick wall I have laid my eyes upon.  I was delighted we were able to incorporate it into Tie's senior portraits!

Tie's next outfit was a fun, free flowing tank top paired with jeans and her favorite pair of Converse.  We photographed this next set of images in front of the Sandusky State Theatre before heading across the street to yellow, chippy paint that was beckoning me.  With very little direction, Tie gave me a variety of looks...this girl can work a camera!

Hands down these next three images are my favorites from her session.  The laugh in the middle photo?  What mama would not want that hanging on their wall?  We changed things up a bit for Tie's next look...going from a fun, casual look to one a bit more dressier.  I love the way Tie stands out in her beautiful, lace romper against an exterior wall covered in lush greenery.  A dainty pearl necklace accessorized Tie's neutral colored romper perfectly!

Tieler is a gifted Senior dancer having danced (and taught) for Northstar Dance Center.  The next few sets from Tie's session allowed us to express her love of dance.  I love that Tie was able to throw caution to the wind and freely dance in the middle of downtown Sandusky.  The results were stunning!

Thank you Tieler (and mom) for allowing me to be a part of your Senior year!  I truly enjoyed our evening together and your session will forever be one of my favorites!  Tieler, I am so excited to hear the news that you have been selected for Ashland University's Dance Team.  What an honor!  You have worked hard and I know you will continue to do so as you begin a new journey!  Keep on dancing.  Keep on smiling.  In doing so, you bring joy to so many others.

Ryan / Clyde High School {Clyde, Ohio Senior Portrait Session} https://kellylindsayphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2017/4/ryan-/-clyde-high-school-clyde-ohio-senior-portrait-session Ryan, a 2017 graduate of Clyde High School, was easily one of my favorite Northwest Ohio Seniors to work with this past year!  Why?  This handsome, athletic Clyde Senior also happens to be my cousin.  Truth be told, I am still in denial that my youngest cousin (and former ring bearer in my wedding who was cuuuuuute) is about to graduate; however, I am so excited for what the future holds for him! Ryan and his family were open to my suggestion of shooting in a handful of the areas in which he grew up.   In doing so, I was given the opportunity to shoot in a variety of locations that were new to me.

The night of Ryan's session in his hometown of Green Springs I spotted these amazing red doors while in route to his house.  When shooting high school seniors I am continuously looking for various textures and colors to photograph my clients in front of.  I love making a location most would not think twice about into something creative and unique!

Along the same street as the rich red doors was an aged brick wall.  Before hopping in our cars and heading to our next location, we captured the next set of images.  Ryan stayed in his classic v-neck tee with jeans, but by quickly adding layering on a plaid shirt we had a new look for his gallery in no time at all!

From there we made the short drive to Clyde's Community Park.  Photographing Ryan at this location was extra special as he played endless hours of baseball there during his youth.  With lush green grass, covered bridges, and a large pond we easily came across beautiful views that we could incorporate into Ryan's images.

Ryan is a multi sport athlete at Clyde High School who has excelled in football, wrestling, and baseball during the last four years (let's be real...he was kicking butt prior to that as well ;) ).  We captured some of his final images for the evening by photographing him in his Varsity Jacket and favorite Clyde Fliers pullover at his high school.

With very little light remaining we ended our evening on a small brick road that I had noticed earlier in the evening.  Again, I am always eager to find alluring textures to work with and challenging myself to provide my clients with unique images.

Thank you Ryan, Aunt Barb, and Cheyenne for a fun filled evening!  It was an honor documenting this special time in Ryan's life.  Ryan, it has been a pleasure to watch you grow over the years.  I pray that my 5 sons have the heart, drive, and determination that you show as they continue in their own lives.  Thank you for being such an awesome role model!  Wishing you the very best during this next phase in your life!

Choosing the Right Accessories for Your Senior Portraits {Oak Harbor Senior Photographer} https://kellylindsayphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2017/4/choosing-the-right-accessories-for-your-senior-portraits-oak-harbor-senior-photographer Ashley 8Ashley 8

You have your outfits planned, know exactly what you are going to do with your hair, and have been perfecting your smokey eye!  Now it is time to consider your accessories, which can make or break your outfit. Here are a few things to keep in mind...

  • Do not let your accessories wear you. Too big or too zany can overwhelm your face and body, taking away from the overall image. This is about YOU!
  • Choose accessories that mean something to you. Maybe you want to wear a ring your mother gave you or the earrings that always earn you compliments.
  • Try not to choose anything that is heavily ornamented. In a few years, ultra trendy items can look really dated. Funky and fun are great, but be thoughtful when selecting your accessories.
  • Make sure your accessories work well together with your outfit. For example, a thin belt may flatter your figure more than a thick belt. And those dangly earrings may look best with your hair up while the studs look good with your hair down.
  • Prior to your session get a second (or even third) opinion.  Put on each outfit and coordinating accessories that you plan to wear for your session and ask for someone's advice.  Perhaps you could snap a few pictures to see how your outfit photographs head to toe!

Check out a few of my 2017 Seniors and their great use of accessories during their senior portrait experience!

Alexa / Oak Harbor High School {Lake Erie, Ohio Senior Portrait Session} https://kellylindsayphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2017/4/alexa-/-oak-harbor-high-school-lake-erie-ohio-senior-portrait-session When Alexa, a 2017 graduate of Oak Harbor High School, contacted me to discuss her Senior Portraits I may have let out a little squeal.  While I do not know Alexa very well, I grew up with her older brothers and sister and considered it an honor that her family trusted me to document such a special time in Alexa's life!  From our discussion prior to our session it was clear the vibe Alexa wanted her portraits to portray (you have to love a girl who knows what she wants!).  Her overall gallery resulted in a lovely collection of fun, rustic, and timeless images.

We started our evening together at a family barn just outside of our village of Oak Harbor.  Alexa's navy, printed blouse paired with jeans was the perfect contrast to the aged, red barn.  I would like to make it known early on that Alexa's use of accessories throughout her session was spot on.  The earrings, bracelets, and shoes she carefully selected for each outfit were never a distraction.  However, each piece gave an additional layer to her overall look that merely enhanced her final images.  Let's be real though...that smile makes YOU smile, right?!

Next we ventured to Pearson Park where we hoped the bountiful wildflowers would still be in bloom.  Luck was on our side and we found a beautiful area to work with.  This set of images are my favorite from Alexa's session.  The ornate pink chair used in the following images resides in Alexa's room and is where she sits to apply her make up.  The addition of the chair not only allowed for a variety of images while remaining in one location, but also gives her portraits a personalized touch!

Finally, we ended our session along the shores of Lake Erie at Maumee Bay State Park as the sun was beginning to set.  The beautiful light and colors of the evening were a lovely compliment to Alexa's classy romper and fun sandals.  Delicate gold accents to her outfit were the perfect touch!

With a few minutes of the sunset left, we photographed Alexa in front of the waters of Lake Erie.  For her final images Alexa chose an adorable white dress again paired with gold accents.  She even threw her graduation gown over her dress for a couple of playful images!

Many thanks Alexa and Mom for a delightful session!  It was a pleasure catching up and getting to know Alexa a little better.  I wish you the very best on your upcoming graduation from Oak Harbor High School and look forward to keeping up with you on your future endeavors!

Daisy / Danbury High School {Lakeside, Ohio Senior Portrait Session} https://kellylindsayphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2017/1/daisy-/-danbury-high-school-lakeside-ohio-senior-portrait-session Daisy, a soon to be 2017 graduate of Danbury High School, was a joy to work with!  With an amazing sense of style and personality to match, she helped to kick start what ended up being an amazing group of 2017 Northwest Ohio seniors I photographed over the summer and fall.

A long time resident of Danbury, Ohio Daisy grew up spending her summers at the ever popular and picturesque Lakeside, Ohio.  Now as a teenager and high school student Daisy is employed at both the bike shop and fan favorite Sloopy's located within the community of Lakeside.  When it came time to choose a location for her summer senior portraits, Lakeside was the undeniable choice!

During the summer months I shoot sunset sessions rather often along the shores of Lake Erie; therefore, I knew I wanted to end our session on the pier and alongside the rock lined beach.  With that information, we started our session at the fun (and colorful) old school house.

After a quick outfit change into this flattering, short summer dress and we made great use of the abundant summer greenery before heading "downtown" where I had noticed some beautifully planted flower beds upon my arrival.  Daisy's magenta colored dress was a lovely contrast to the yellow flowers!

With another outfit selection, the sun was beginning to set.  Daisy's neutral, yet playful bib overalls were perfect for this location where brightly colored kayaks were gathered.  The warm light here was just amazing.  Not far from the kayaks (and right across from the bike shop where Daisy and Mom work in the summer) was a stunning red barn wall that just called out to us before Daisy changed into her final outfit.

Daisy selected a classic "little black dress" for her final outfit.  Earlier during our session, Daisy made mention of a front porch she has always admired within the Lakeside community.  She indicated that she also loved the American Flag that proudly hangs on the front of the home as well.  After a quick knock on the door and approval from the home owner we captured a few beautiful images on the steps before moving on.

How Many Hours Do I Need to Book My Wedding Photographer For? {Thursday Tips} https://kellylindsayphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2017/1/how-many-hours-do-i-need-to-book-my-wedding-photographer-for-thursday-tips One of my most frequently asked questions regarding wedding photography is:  How long should I book my wedding photographer for?  This is a GREAT question, and I am here to (hopefully) help you find the answer.

What do you want covered?

The first step is deciding what important details you want covered.  Do you desire a lot of getting ready shots prior to the ceremony?  Do you want your photographer to stay for the entire duration of your reception?  These details will affect the length of time you will need your photographer there.  If you want your photographer to stay until your reception exit and you want a lot of candid, getting ready images, you will need full day coverage.  If you just want a few preparation shots, that will knock off some time needed.  If you want your photographer to simply stay for the main events at the reception (toasts, cake cutting, special dances, etc.) and not until the last song is played , then this will also shorten the day.  By deciding on a start and/or end time, this is the beginning step to booking the package right for you.

Ceremony Length

Next, you need to think about the length of your wedding ceremony.  For a Catholic wedding, the ceremony tends to be longer; therefore, you will need to allot more time for that.  If you want full coverage of getting ready, the ceremony, and the reception, I would suggest full day coverage for Catholic weddings.  If you have a shorter ceremony, you will not need to take out as much time from your schedule.

Location Transfer

Now let's talk about location.  If you have a shorter ceremony and your reception is at the same venue as your ceremony, then you will not require as much time because you can take out travel time.  I would estimate a wedding shorter in length with a reception at the same venue to need six to eight hours of coverage, depending on formal portraits.

Along the same lines, if your reception is at a different venue, you will need to include travel time into your schedule.  In addition, incorporate the amount of time it takes to pack up all of your belongings to take to the reception (better yet request a trusted family member or friend to help get this done prior to the start of the ceremony or immediately following).  If you are stopping for photos along the drive to the reception, more time will need to be added for that as well.

Formal Portrait Requirements

For formal portraits, you have to take into consideration how many people are in your bridal party.  How many family members will be part of your family portraits?  If you have a smaller bridal party and a smaller family having included in photos, (and you are at the same location for the duration of the day), then six to seven hours of coverage will suffice.  If you have a larger family and/or bridal party, you will need closer to eight to nine hours of coverage.

Special Exit

If you are doing a special exit from the reception, for example a sparkler exit, you will more than likely need full day coverage.

When Simple Works

Some weddings can be covered in four hours.  If you are having a backyard wedding, a courthouse wedding, or a shorter reception (for example, no dancing) with a sit down dinner at a restaurant, then your coverage can be met in a shorter amount of time.

Finally

Other things to consider?  Are you doing a first look prior to the ceremony?  How much time do you have between the ceremony and reception?  Are you planning on capturing all bridal party images following the ceremony or will some be taken prior (think groom/groomsman images and bride/bridesmaid images)?  Communication between a couple and their photographer is key to achieving a a beautiful gallery of wedding images that tells the story of the day.  Do not be afraid to ask your photographer how much time he or she will need for family portraits, bride/groom portraits, etc.  Plan for this in advance and together work on a timeline for the day.  It is much easier to find "hidden" 10-15 minute pockets of time weeks ahead of time versus on the big day!

Congratulations and Happy Planning!

Sisters / Port Clinton Beach Portrait Session {Lake Erie Photographer} https://kellylindsayphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2017/1/sisters-/-port-clinton-beach-portrait-session-lake-erie-photographer Good morning!  Who could use some cuteness (and a reminder that summer will be here before we know it!) on this dreary day?  Personally, I know I could!  I adore winter...when there is snow.  No snow on the ground?  You might as well take me straight to summer!

The session I am sharing with you today is hands down one of my favorite "sister sessions" to date!  Mom contacted me after I had worked with both of her daughters while shooting Oak Harbor Youth Soccer League photos.  Not going to lie as soon as she said who her daughters were I remembered exactly who they were, because they are adorable.  Like "will you marry one of my boys adorable"!

So why is their session one of my favorite sister sessions to date?  Maybe it's because the lighting was spot on the evening of our session.  Maybe it's because we were shooting at one of my favorite beaches....hello, East Harbor State Park!  Perhaps it's because their outfit selections were perfection! Let's not forget these sisters are 100% adorable.  Truth be told, this session is one of my favorites for all the reasons I just gave; however, they also showed up with a kitten.  Yes, a kitten.  In Mom's purse.  You see on the way to the session Mom and daughters passed a sign for free kittens so they stopped..and left with a kitten...headed to a photo session.  Now, I need for you to understand I was that young girl growing up who brought easily a hundred kittens home.  No really.  And I built them elaborate cat houses made out of cardboard boxes.  So yea, I pretty much fell in love with mom and girls before the first click of my shutter.  Now I know you are wondering did we take a few pictures with the kitten?  What do you think ;)

Preparing Your Child for Their Portrait Session {NW Ohio Photographer / Thursday Tips} https://kellylindsayphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2017/1/preparing-your-child-for-their-portrait-session-nw-ohio-photographer-/-thursday-tips Your session is right around the corner!  Are you ready?  Excited?  Is your child ready?  I have prepared a checklist of things for you to remember in order to make sure your child is prepared for their portrait session!

  • Do not forget to feed your child before the session.  Also, pack snacks in the event hunger strikes again while we are shooting (because let's be real...kids are always hungry!).
  • Bring more than one outfit.  Make sure you always have backup clothes just in case.  I suggest not changing your child into their session clothing until after you feed him.  If you plan on dressing your child upon arrival for your session, please plan accordingly arriving ahead of time.
  • Let your child help when picking out their clothes for the session (unless their fashion taste is questionable...ha!).  By letting your child wear his favorite shirt or shoes, etc. this will help him feel more comfortable.  If his choice of clothing doesn't match, see if you can use that shirt as an undershirt or tell him he can put in on for a couple of shots at the end of the session!
  • If you have a younger child, try to schedule the session around her naptime so she will be well rested and happy for photos.
  • Have a bribe in place.  Bring fruit snacks, goldfish, candy (avoid chocolate...I recommend smarties) and let him know that if he cooperates he will get said bribery.  Parents I have worked with in the past have bribed their children by telling them if they are good, they can watch a video on Mommy or Daddy's phone.  Use whatever you think will work for YOUR child.  Who is up for ice cream after the session?!
  • Bring along her favorite toy or blanket.  This will help your child be comfortable in a new, unfamiliar surrounding.  Please be aware that this may become a prop in some of the images, so bring an item that is pleasing to the eyes, smaller in size, or has sentimental value.
  • Talk to your child about their upcoming session and explain what is going to happen.  If your child is informed about the situation, it will help to be less scary for her when she comes to the session.  Tell her she is going to meet a new friend who is going to take some pictures of her.  Let her know that you will be right there with her and that we are going to have lots of fun!  We might change her clothes once or twice and ask her to sit a certain way.  During the session, we can show her a couple of the images so she can put two and two together.
  • Bring Grandma (or someone else your child adores).  Bringing along reinforcement is always a good plan.  If grandma lives close by, or if your child's favorite uncle has the day off work, bring him or her with you.  We can use this family member to help get your child to relax and laugh.

Hopefully a few (or all) of the above tips will help to make your child's portrait session a success!  When it's time for your session, try to keep in mind that not every image captured has to have huge smiles.  Some of my personal favorite images of my own kids are those that have serious faces or the tiniest of grins.  As a photographer and mother of 5 myself, I understand that sometimes we just simply need to take a break during our session.  And I am okay with that.  In return, I ask that you smile and tolerate my off key, horrible rendition of any children's song that comes to my head.  Consider my accompanying animal sounds to get your child to look my direction an added gift to you.  No thanks needed....just join in the fun!

Anzlee / Oak Harbor High School Senior {Port Clinton, Ohio Senior Portrait Session} https://kellylindsayphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2017/1/anzlee-/-oak-harbor-high-school-senior-port-clinton-ohio-senior-portrait-session Oh, dear readers.  Let me tell ya a little something something.  The Class of 2017 has been good to me.  So very good to me.  In the coming weeks I have what appears to be a never ending group of gorgeous girls and handsome fellas that help to make up the 2017 graduating class from Oak Harbor High School, Port Clinton High School, and various other Northwest Ohio High Schools!  Hold on, because you are in for a fun and beautiful ride!

Today, I could not be more delighted to share a selection of images that showcases Anzlee's Summer Session.  Anzlee is an up and coming 2017 graduate of Oak Harbor High School.  I have been fortunate enough to work with Anzlee and her family on a few occasions since the beginning of Kelly Lindsay Photography and when Mom contacted me to schedule her oldest daughter's Senior Portraits I may have squealed ;)

Mom and Anzlee opted to split Anzlee's time with me up into two different sessions...a summer and fall session.  This decision is an ongoing trend in the area of Senior Portraits and one that allows for a diverse collection of images in a Senior's final gallery.  Anzlee (and her family!) love the beach so scheduling her summer session along the shores of Lake Erie was the perfect choice.  I presented Anzlee's mom with a few area beaches local to Oak Harbor and we quickly decided East Harbor State Park in Port Clinton, Ohio would best fit our needs.

The evening of our session we had gorgeous weather accompanied by stunning light...two wins for any photographer!  We quickly breezed thru Anzlee's 3 outfits in under an hour and even captured a handful of images with her handsome, funny boyfriend (NOW fiance...so happy for you two and your families).  Anzlee started her session in a classically colored black and white dress.  I loved the details along the hemline and sleeves that featured cutouts.  A walkway towards the beach lined with tall grass was the great starting point for our session.

Before changing into her second outfit selection, we captured a few additional images as Anzlee sat among the larger rocks that line the shores of East Harbor beach.  I absolutely adore the image below of her laughing!  Fun fact!  Literally 2-3 feet away from these rocks was a couple lounging along the shore.  It didn't phase Anzlee a bit and that was another reason I enjoyed our time together so much.

For Anzlee's second outfit selection she wore a simple pair of jean shorts with a stylish tank top.  The addition of the gold necklace was just the right touch for this ensemble.  And why not go barefoot when on the beach?  Or in my case?  All of the time.  Ha!

And would you have ever guessed there was a young boy sitting on top of the life guard stand in this image?  Let's face it when you are shooting on location you run into "obstacles", but with very little effort we can always work around them ;)

Anzlee Summer 25Anzlee Summer 25

For Anzlee's final outfit of her summer session she selected a beautiful black and white romper with thin straps.  A pair of earrings and black sandals proved to be just the right accessories!  We photographed this last set of images in my always favorite beach grass where Anzlee really stood out in front of the green background.  A quick 360 turn and we captured her final remaining images in front of the water of Lake Erie.

Anzlee and family...I cannot thank you enough for allowing me to capture Anzlee's Senior Portraits!  It is always a true pleasure to see all of you (or even a small sampling of your family ;) ).  Anzlee, I wish you the very best in these final months of your Senior year at Oak Harbor High School!  I look forward to following your future path and know for certain you will continue to bring joy and pride to your parents and family!

How to Personalize Your Senior Session {Northwest Ohio Photographer / Thursday Tips} https://kellylindsayphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2017/1/how-to-personalize-your-senior-session-northwest-ohio-photographer-/-thursday-tips Hello and welcome to my first edition of "Thursday Tips"!  Today's blog post is geared towards those high school students (and families!) preparing for their upcoming Senior Portrait Session.  However, some of the ideas given below could easily be incorporated into your family, maternity, and engagement session.  Or imagine putting one or two of these ideas to use on your wedding day!  At the end of the post, please be sure to check out the images illustrating some of the ideas I am about to share with you.

During your custom Senior Portrait Session with Kelly Lindsay Photography I strive to make your session all about YOU!  During our time together I really want to show off your personality in turn making your images unique to you.  For my Northwest Ohio 2018 Seniors (and even those 2017 Seniors still in need of a custom portrait session!) now is the time to start planning your session so your gallery is the perfect reflection of you.

Think about your daily and weekly routine- where you like to go, what you like to do, etc.  I want to get to know YOU through your images.  The same images you will be sharing with family and friends.  I would love for you to create a list of your hobbies and extra curricular activities...then send them my way so together we can create your perfect session.

Below is a sampling of ideas that you may want to incorporate into your session.  These are just suggestions and a starting point to help you brainstorm!

  • Sports
  • Art/Theatre
  • Music
  • Favorite Book or Movie
  • Your job or the career you are planning on getting started in
  • Your car, truck, etc.
  • Your high school
  • Your future college
  • Your pet
  • Your BFF
  • And don't forget about your favorite places to hang out- whether it be a coffee shop, park, football field, book store, etc.  We can try to add this special location into your session.

Want some more inspiration?  Check out the images below from some of my 2017 High School Seniors...

Oak Harbor High School Senior, Mikki, came to the Fall portion of her Senior session with an idea that brought me to tears (side note...I pretty much cry at each Senior session I do...consider yourself warned).  Mikki's mother is a proud veteran of the United States Marines and Mikki opted to sport her mom's military jacket for one set of images.  The kicker to this idea?  Mom had no idea AND was unable to attend the session so the surprise element of these images was off the charts!

Anzlee (another Oak Harbor High School 2017 Senior) has a love for her adorable black Volkswagen Bug!  It was a no brainer for us to incorporate her sweet car into her Fall session.  Mom giving us the go ahead for Anzlee to sit atop the car for an image or two?  Bonus!

Working with Oak Harbor High School Senior, Shannah, gave me the opportunity to photograph a pig for the first time!  In the process I learned pigs have a love of marshmallows and in fact Shannah was treating her sweet pig to one in the image below.  Side note...this was Shannah's most "LIKED" image I shared over on my Facebook page and one Mom ordered plenty of wallets of!

Proud Oak Harbor Rocket, Jake, is a member of both the golf and baseball teams.  We pulled off some incredible images showcasing his involvement in both, but this baseball portrait was one of my favorites!

As an Oak Harbor Senior this past Fall, Katelyn, proudly lead the Oak Harbor Marching Band.  I loved hearing about her "later" start with the program and the success that has since followed!

Fellow Oak Harbor 2017 Senior, Alexa, brought along this stunning pink chair to her summer senior session.  This pink chair is the same one that sits in her bedroom and she sits in to apply her makeup.  Super sweet, right?

2017 Norwalk High School Senior, Tieler (Tie for short), is an accomplished, beautiful dancer.  We took to the streets of downtown Sandusky, Ohio and created magic.

2017 Oak Harbor High School Senior, Jacob, proudly represents Oak Harbor on both the football and wrestling teams.  We were able to feature his dedication to both during our sessions together.

Ethan / Oak Harbor High School Senior {Lindsey, Ohio Senior Portrait Session} https://kellylindsayphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2016/6/ethan-/-oak-harbor-high-school-senior-lindsey-ohio-senior-portrait-session I am excited to introduce you to Ethan, a 2016 graduate of Oak Harbor School!  It was a pleasure to meet this handsome guy and his parents after the need to reschedule our session due to an injury.  A couple of days prior to the date of original session Ethan suffered an eye injury during a football game (ouch!).  Thankfully, his stitches were not in long and any remaining indication he had been inured were an easy fix in Photoshop!  Regardless, when you look at Ethan you are drawn to his stellar smile so this photographer had no worries!

Upon discussing Ethan's interests and personality it was decided this Oak Harbor Senior's session would take place at Creek Bend Farm in Lindsey, Ohio.  In addition, we opted to meet again later in the week at Oak Harbor High School to showcase Ethan's love of football and baseball.  Creek Bend Farm is part of the Sandusky County Park District and within the last year has become one of my favorite locations to shoot at.  Ethan's dad received bonus points from me for coming across a hidden treasure during our session as well (more on that later)!

For Ethan's first set of images he paired jeans with an always classic plaid button down shirt.  At the risk of sounding cliche the barns around Creek Bend Farm were ideal to shoot his plaid shirt against.  I loved how relaxed Ethan was in front of my camera.  He flowed pretty effortlessly from a genuine smile to a more serious look.  It was great talking to him as we walked and I enjoyed learning a little bit more about his life and plans following graduation.

For his next set of images Ethan stuck with his jeans, but changed quickly into a casual black t-shirt.  During this time we made great use of some newer constructed steps at Creek Bend Farm and a concrete wall full of texture on a nearby building.   Ethan 10Ethan 10 Ethan 11Ethan 11 From there we made our way down a path close by in search of some tall grass (aka where I love to "plant" all of my clients in a rustic setting).  While Ethan and I were busy shooting in the grass, Ethan's dad wandered off.  Shortly, I heard "Hey, I think I have found something you may be interested in!".  At this point, the heavens parted as I was directed to a nearby creek.  Obviously, we were at Creek Bend Farm. I figured there was a creek SOMEWHERE, but I had no idea where it was or how to access it.  High five, dad...HIGH FIVE!!! Ethan 12 B&WEthan 12 B&W Ethan 14Ethan 14 Ethan 17Ethan 17 Ethan 18Ethan 18 Ethan 20Ethan 20 Following a Thursday night practice and team feed, I met up with Ethan again.  As a football player and baseball player during his time at Oak Harbor High School we definitely wanted to incorporate both sports into Ethan's senior session.  For sport images, I encourage my seniors to bring along their jersey and pair it with a pair of jeans or khakis.  Both looks are great!  During Ethan's session we added in a football, his helmet, and Varsity jacket as well.

Thank you Ethan (and family!) for choosing Kelly Lindsay Photography during such an important time in your lives!  It was a pleasure meeting all of you and I consider myself lucky to have worked with you!  Congratulations to Ethan on his recent graduation from Oak Harbor High School...I wish you great success as you head to the University of Toledo in the fall.  I look forward to hearing of your future accomplishments!

Dakota / Oak Harbor Senior {Port Clinton, Ohio Rustic Senior Portrait Session} https://kellylindsayphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2016/6/dakota-/-oak-harbor-senior-port-clinton-ohio-rustic-senior-portrait-session Let me introduce to you Dakota...a 2016 graduating senior of Oak Harbor High School!  This girl is stunning with amazing style!  She looks (and reminds me) so much of her Mom who I have known for a good number of years (hello small town!).  Dakota's session took place on a gorgeous fall evening and I was delighted that her best friend tagged along during her session.  Bringing a friend to your session is great for a number of reasons...they help with your hair, make you laugh, and truly help me to bring out the very best in YOU!

Dakota and her Mom opted for the majority her session to take place at a fellow family member's home and surrounding land.  I love shooting at locations personal and special to my graduating seniors!  We started Dakota's session alongside the house that featured this amazing wood exterior with tons of texture.  The tones in the wood complimented her long maroon sweater perfectly.  I love the sparkle in her eyes and various looks she gave me in a matter of a few minutes!

Shelbie / Oak Harbor Fall Senior {Oak Harbor ; Port Clinton Senior Photographer} https://kellylindsayphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2016/6/shelbie-/-oak-harbor-fall-senior-oak-harbor-port-clinton-senior-photographer 2016 Oak Harbor High School graduate Shelbie opted to add on an additional "Senior Seasonal" portrait session and I was so happy she did!  I originally met with Shelbie and her mom (hello BF!) the summer prior to her senior year.  Shelbie's summer gallery was gorgeous, but her Fall session ended up being my favorite and the end results were stunning.

Our fall session took place at a family friend's farm located right here in Oak Harbor.  The setting was absolutely ideal...beautiful fall foliage, chippy ladders, rustic barns, and a sweet Ford truck!  The star the evening of our session was Shelbie herself (of course!).  This gorgeous Oak Harbor senior paired jeans, tall boots, and two various tops for a stylish and yet classic look.  Her hair had some curl to it compared to the straighter locks she had during her summer session giving her overall gallery more variety.  Your fall senior portrait session is the perfect time to add layers!  Shelbie did just that with her floral print shirt and the addition of a lightweight blue sweater!

Can we talk about her blue eyes in this first image, though?  Hello!

Brandon / Oak Harbor Senior {Port Clinton Ohio Senior Session ; Lake Erie Senior Portraits} https://kellylindsayphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2016/4/brandon-/-oak-harbor-senior-port-clinton-ohio-senior-session-lake-erie-senior-portraits Say hello to Brandon...a 2016 graduate of Oak Harbor High School in Oak Harbor, Ohio!  Brandon's mom contacted me early on in the beginning of the school year to schedule Brandon's senior portraits.  I wasn't familiar with Brandon or his mom so I did what most normal people do and Facebook stalked  them.  Gasp!  Now no judging, because you know you are guilty of the same a time or two.  So on Mom's page I find this handsome, tall looking guy with...curly hair.  Honestly.  I wanted to hug him.  Like right away.  I am odd like that.  I have to tell when I finally met Brandon, his mom, and girlfriend (whom it turns out I knew) it was a breath of fresh air.  Mom is an amazing mother who dearly loves her son (and daughter!).  They were easy going, fun, and truthfully just a delight to be around.  Mom was full of sweet stories about Brandon and I was pretty darn lucky to listen to them throughout our session.

Mom requested some Lake Erie/beach images in addition to a natural setting for Brandon's session.  We started our session at East Harbor State Park in Port Clinton, Ohio.  I loved Brandon's relaxed look for this set of images.  I cannot stress enough that your senior session should be a reflection of YOU...your style, your personality, your interests!  If you are not a suit and tie kind of person your Senior session is not the time to wear one.  Now if you are then by all means sport your finest threads!

Over the last two years I have met quite a few photography clients at East Harbor to capture them on the shores of Lake Erie.  It has been fun finding "hidden" locations that at the right time of day feature gorgeous light.  Some of that gorgeous light came out to play during Brandon's Senior session.

Brandon 17 B&WBrandon 17 B&W Brandon 18Brandon 18 Brandon 19Brandon 19 Brandon 20Brandon 20 Brandon 22Brandon 22 From downtown Port Clinton we headed to Lake Shore Drive to end our evening.  The sun was setting over Lake Erie and the bold rocks along this small stretch of beach are some of my favorites.

Brandon 23Brandon 23 Brandon 24Brandon 24 Brandon 25Brandon 25 Brandon 27Brandon 27 I met Brandon later in the week for his final set of images.  Like many of my 2016 Oak Harbor, Ohio Seniors Brandon is an athlete who is proud member of both the Oak Harbor Rockets Football and Wrestling teams.  Football season was a few weeks in and 30 minutes following an after school practice was just enough time to finish Brandon's session.  Again, I took to the Oak Harbor High School football stadium for this  next series of images.  Would you check out that helmet?  Hit 'em hard or go home ;)  Brandon's girlfriend (clearly one of his biggest fans!) joined him for a few poses as well.

Brandon 30Brandon 30 Brandon 31Brandon 31 Brandon 28Brandon 28 Brandon 29Brandon 29 Brandon 33 B&WBrandon 33 B&W Brandon 34Brandon 34 Brandon 39Brandon 39 NOW...you may remember earlier I mentioned Brandon also wrestled for the Oak Harbor Rockets.  During our time together I did suggest meeting up for some additional images representing Brandon's love of wrestling.  At the time he politely declined expressing how crazy busy wrestling season is (understandable).  During his Senior year (and it goes without saying the time leading up to his final year at Oak Harbor) Brandon put in an abundance of hours on the mat, in the weight room, etc.  That hard work paid off.  Greatly.  I am happy to share that Brandon became Oak Harbor High School's first ever Heavyweight STATE CHAMPION!!!  I am not going to lie I may have teared up when I heard the news.  Oak Harbor's wrestling program is one of the best and Brandon joins an amazing list of State Champions hailing from Oak Harbor.  A huge congratulations to not only Brandon, but his family, coaches, and teammates who helped him along the way.

Thank you Brandon (and Mom) for choosing me to capture Brandon's Senior Portraits.  I enjoyed getting to know you and I am looking forward to hearing of the greatness that awaits Brandon!

Ava Turns One / Oak Harbor & Port Clinton Family Photographer {Northwest Ohio Photographer} https://kellylindsayphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2016/4/ava-turns-one-/-oak-harbor-port-clinton-family-photographer-northwest-ohio-photographer Oh, this little ginger!  She has captured her Aunt Kelly's heart.  I can hardly believe she turned ONE back in August!  It was amazing to capture her entire first year in photos (literally from birth).  My brother and sister in law are lucky to have a gorgeous yard right here in Oak Harbor with surrounding fields as well.  I love me a mixture of overgrown grass and weeds and when you a plant a small (super cute) child in the mix...well, perfection ;)  Mom found this adorable white jean jacket with flowers on it at Old Navy and paired with a tee and jean shorts Ava looked beyond cute!  Don't you just love her wild crazy hair and baby blues?  I die.

Ava 1Ava 1 Ava 5Ava 5 Ava 6Ava 6 Ava 7Ava 7 Ava 8Ava 8 THIS.  Honestly!  One year olds are so fun and in a short matter of time you can get a wide range of looks from them (especially with Mom and Dad doing Lord only knows what behind me!). Ava 10Ava 10 Ava 12Ava 12 Ava 20Ava 20

I scored this little jean dress at a garage sale earlier in the summer and sent it Ava's way.  I am sure you could pair it with leggings as well, but at the time it made for a stylish and classic dress for Ava's 1st Birthday session.  Enter the Pepsi crate.  Anyone who knows my sister in law is well aware that she loves her Pepsi.  We joke that her 3 children all were born from a "Pepsi womb".  I scored this vintage Pepsi crate while shopping in Amish country (with my sister in law for the record) earlier in the summer that Ava was born.  I had to get it!  The fact it is yellow (my favorite color)...huge bonus!

I just love the lighting in this series of photos and the way it hits Ava's hair!

The ride was worth it though!  We definitely had our choice of beautiful scenery for Trent's first outfit selection.  The family dog made his way into a few images as well!

David / Oak Harbor {Oak Harbor Ohio Senior Portraits ; Northwest Ohio Senior Session} https://kellylindsayphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2016/4/david Say hello to David...an upcoming 2016 Oak Harbor High School graduate!  Talk about a fun senior session!  I graduated with Mom & Dad and I can hardly believe their oldest is graduating!  David just oozes personality and I am slightly disappointed one of his outfit selections was not the Uncle Eddie getup he has sported at an Oak Harbor High School basketball game ;)  Super fun, right?!

We started David's session at a family friend's private residence here in Oak Harbor.  David has spent a fair amount of time here...camping, playing corn hole, etc.  I love shooting sessions (especially senior sessions) at locations that are special to my clients.  Thankfully, Northwest Ohio is full of gorgeous locations...even quaint family farms!  Can we talk about this chicken coop that was onsite?  I have a "thing" for the color red and peeling paint  so it was a must incorporating this building into David's session.  His jeans and paid shirt were the perfect compliment to this specific location!

David 1David 1 David 2David 2 David 3David 3 David 6David 6 David 8David 8 David 10 B&WDavid 10 B&W From there we headed to the Oak Harbor High School campus.  David plays both baseball and football for Oak Harbor and it was important to both him and his Mom that his senior gallery reflected that.  David was smart to bring his bat, we found a ball in the dugout (ha), and a vintage looking football.  He paired each of his respective jerseys with a pair of jeans for a great look at each field.  Throughout our session it was fun to hear traditions of the current  teams including mascots and special places on the fields.

Gabby / Sylvania Northview {Oak Harbor Ohio Senior Portraits ; Lake Erie Senior Session} https://kellylindsayphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2016/4/gabby-/-sylvania-northview-/-oak-harbor-ohio-senior-portraits-/-lake-erie-portraits

Meet Gabby a 2016 Senior from Sylvania Northview, Ohio!  I was humbled when Gabby's Mom contacted me to schedule her senior session!  Gabby is an upcoming graduate of Sylvania Northview High School and typically most of the seniors I work with are a whee bit closer to me.  However, Gabby's family owns a house on the beach of Lake Erie here in Oak Harbor and they were looking for her session to take place at their beach house and surrounding area.  I have some pretty stellar clients who love to give me referrals and in doing so I had the opportunity to meet Gabby and her parents (for the record super sweet and fun family!).

The evening of our session we were fortunate to have some gorgeous weather, but nothing could match the beautiful girl that Gabby is.  Inside and out.  Prior to our session Gabby and her mom had done some location scouting and their top picks were on point ;)  Can we talk clothing choices? Spot on I tell ya!  Each outfit complimented Gabby's sparkling blue eyes and were simply perfect for our locations.

We started our session with Gabby wearing a fun maxi dress...perfect for the shores of Lake Erie!  Now.  Confession time.  Since starting Kelly Lindsay Photography I have NEVER and I mean never gotten more inquiries as to where this first series of images was shot.  Want in on a secret?  It's the exterior of an outdoor shower.  No joke.  And I loved it!  Talk about a match made in heaven...that wall and that dress!

In the next yard over (which we were welcome to shoot in) their was the most amazing landscaping with the perfect little bench for a few more photos!

Gabby 9Gabby 9 Gabby 10Gabby 10

It goes without saying we had to hit up the beach of Lake Erie and these grand rocks for some poses!

Then it was time for a quick outfit change.  Not only did I adore all of Gabby's outfit selections, but I loved how each outfit complimented the other.  Each was a various shade of blue with pops of other colors.  When working with similar tones this allows for a cohesive gallery and the opportunity for a beautiful collection of images to hang on the wall ;)

For her final set of images Gabby paired jeans with a lace tank top.  Ladies and gentleman jeans are classic and will never go out of style.  They make the perfect choice for at least one of your Senior outfit selections.  By simply pulling back some of her hair and the addition of a few new accessories Gabby had a new look in no time at all!

Gabby and family...thank you so much for selecting me for your Senior portraits.  It truly was an honor to meet the three of you.  Wishing you the best of luck in your future endeavors and the biggest of Congratulations on your upcoming graduation!

I have been photographing this little cutie since she was 6'ish months old.  Mom wanted a beach session for our recent session and East Harbor State Park in Port Clinton, Ohio was the perfect place to meet!  I have gotten to know the layout of East Harbor beach fairly well this past summer and certain spots have stellar lighting.  It has definitely been the hot spot for both family and senior sessions this year!  The night of Hailey's session the weather was perfect and a little toy turtle recently given to her by her Dad helped me to capture some sweet smiles.  Mom always has the perfect outfit picked out for Hailey for each and every session.  Her patriotic sundress was just 100% adorable for our Lake Erie session!

Shelbie / Northwest Ohio Senior Photographer / Oak Harbor Senior Photographer https://kellylindsayphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2016/2/shelbie-/-northwest-ohio-senior-photographer-/-oak-harbor-senior-photographer The amount of Seniors I photographed the summer/fall of 2015 more than tripled compared to 2014!  It was exciting, fun, NEW, and I truly enjoyed each and every session.  I started my Senior sessions off with this young lady from Oak Harbor High School!  Her mom happens to be one of my closest friends and Shelbie has watched our boys from time to time.  Let me tell you...I was NERVOUS!  Truth be told I (still) get nervous before each and every session, but shooting for family and friends makes me weak in the knees.

The evening of our session we started off shooting behind the barns of Shelbie's godmother.  How special, right?!  The location did not disappoint as I love me some worn barn wood and overgrown greenery.  I had scored this adorable pink bicycle at a garage sale a few weeks prior and KNEW I had to incorporate it into Shelbie's session.  Mama brought along some fresh wildflowers from her own Mama's yard and they were just the right touch!

Beautiful Blues / Northwest Ohio Baby Photographer, Oak Harbor, Ohio https://kellylindsayphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2016/2/beautiful-blues-/-northwest-ohio-baby-photographer-oak-harbor-ohio Confession.  I love photographing babies.  That first year goes so fast.  So.  Darn.  Fast.  As a mom to 5, I realized that with each additional child "the first year" went by even faster.  Each and every single time.  So I jump at the opportunity to photograph babies and capture those precious milestones.  This little one below?  Gah!  Those eyes!  Just look at those eyes!  So thankful for the chance to photograph this sweet girl in such a natural state <3

Danica / Northwest Ohio Newborn Photographer / Oak Harbor, Ohio https://kellylindsayphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2016/1/precious-newborn-/-newborn-photography-/-northwest-ohio-photographer-/-oak-harbor-ohio A little "back story" before we dive into the pure gorgeousness that is Danica.  When Kelly Lindsay Photography was born I chose to not be a photographer who offered every session one could images.  Family, children, seniors, newborns, weddings, landscape.  In my heart I knew I could not boast "specializes in _________________ (fill in the blank with every type of photography desired)".  Is that even possible?  No.  Really?  For me (keeping it real) the answer was a clear cut "no".  Even today I could not claim to specialize in 4 various forms of photography, because quite simply I don't.  In the very beginning of Kelly Lindsay Photography I chose to focus on children and family sessions.  I had zero desire to "tackle" the beast that is known as wedding photography.  Newborn photography?  Well, frankly it scared me.  Working with another mother's newborn terrified me.  Yes, says the mother of 5.  Newborn photography is truly an art.  I am in awe of those who rock it.  Honestly.

Enter Sam.  Oh, sweet Sam.  Sam has been one of my most faithful, supportive, and beautiful clients from the beginning.  I am  smitten with her oldest daughter whom I began photographing at 6 months of age.  I absolutely love each and every session with Sam and her family.  When Sam got pregnant with her second child she requested newborn photos from yours truly.  I wanted to run.  Far and fast.  But I don't run ;)  Bless Sam for knowing I didn't offer newborn photography, but for stating she couldn't imagine going elsewhere.  At that I said "yes" and promised to deliver the very best images I could.  From the moment I said "yes" I promised myself two things I would keep my posing simple leaving the complicated poses to the experts and that I would study, study, study newborn photography for the next 9 months.  PS...Sam, THANK YOU for the heads up allowing me lots of time ;)  Many nights I could be found on Youtube watching various videos on newborn wrapping, posing, safe props,  etc.  I invested in a Newborn e-guide by the amazing Amy Cook Photography and gained valuable knowledge.

Leading up to the session I was nervous.  Like "I am going to puke all over this newborn" nervous  (I didn't for the record).  I kept it simple.  I gave it my all and in the end truly enjoyed the session.  After all who doesn't like some baby snuggles?!  I have so much to learn regarding the art of newborn photography, but when all is said and done I am proud of these images :)  Thanks, Sam for taking a chance on me!

Sisters / Children's Session / Magee Marsh / Oak Harbor, Ohio https://kellylindsayphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2016/1/sisters-/-childrens-session-/-magee-marsh-/-oak-harbor-ohio Oh, this session!  Let me start by saying this session started off with a "minor" issue.  After driving to Maumee Bay (our intended location) I grabbed my camera only to realize said camera did not contain a battery.  Frantically, I began searching my camera bag and no battery.  *Insert lots of descriptive words at this moment*  I quickly then remembered both of my batteries were on chargers.  At home.  45 minutes away.  Charging for THIS session.  Awesome, no?  I have to tell you I was so mad at myself and rather embarrassed as well.  I placed a phone call to my client who frankly showed me  more kindness than what I deserved at that moment (thanks, Mom!).  After a quick conversation we agreed for both of us to head back towards Oak Harbor (home for both of us), I would grab my battery, and we would meet at Magee Marsh (aka former Crane Creek beach) instead.  We were losing light quickly, the girls were getting a whee bit tired, but the end result?  Well, maybe it was meant to be ;)  Thanks again "L Family" for continually being amazing and understanding clients who I now consider friends!

Beach Beauties / Children's Session / East Harbor State Park / Lakeside Marblehead, Ohio https://kellylindsayphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2015/7/beach-beauties-/-childrens-session-/-east-harbor-state-park-/-lakeside-marblehead-ohio Last Fall I had the pleasure of meeting this family for the first time.  At the time Mom was pregnant with baby #2 and we met for some Fall images of their first born daughter.  I pretty much fell in love with her at first sight.  Chubby cheeks.  INCREDIBLE curls.  Big brown eyes.  She was an absolute doll and easy peasy to photograph.  Fast forward to the end of June and I met up with the "S" Family at East Harbor State Park to capture now two little beauties!  Baby sis was full of smiles...let's face it 6 months to 9 months is a FUN age to photograph :)  Big sis had fallen asleep on the way to their session and wanted very little to do with me or my camera.  Smile or no smile she is still absolutely precious.  The love she has for her little sister?  Swoon!

Mother Daughter / Beach Session / Maumee Bay State Park / Oregon, Ohio https://kellylindsayphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2015/7/mother-daughter-/-beach-session-/-maumee-bay-state-park-/-oregon-ohio Gah!  This session just made me feel good!  Mom and I were a year apart in High School and spent quite a bit of time together during our Cheerleading days (Go Oak Harbor!).  'Lil Miss is beyond sweet, 100% adorable, and played soccer for me this past Spring.  Mom took advantage of one of my Beach Mini Session Dates at Maumee Bay State Park and I was thankful for the opportunity to capture some Mother Daughter moments and individual images of 'Lil Miss.  Hello, model material right here!  Thank you again for scheduling a session with me...it was great to chat with the both of you!  You made my job beyond easy <3  Enjoy some of my favorites from their session....

Beautiful Beach Session / East Harbor State Park / Lakeside Marblehead, Ohio / Port Clinton, Ohio https://kellylindsayphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2015/7/beautiful-beach-session-/-east-harbor-state-park-/-port-clinton-ohio  I first met these beautiful children during a Generation session about 2 years ago.  Their Aunt is a long time friend and schedules sessions for her children on a regular basis.  Needless to say, I was delighted when Mama K e-mailed me to schedule a session for her own children!  We messaged back and forth a handful of times over the course of several weeks finding a time and location that would work best for the both of us.  Just days before our session we settled on East Harbor State Park in Lakeside Marblehead.  The evening of our session we had below normal temps with unbelievable light and frankly it was rather windy out.  BUT, these kiddos rocked it in their gorgeous beach attire!  I mean come on!  Honestly?  Check these stunning siblings out....

Sweet Sisters / Beach Session / Magee Marsh / Oak Harbor, Ohio https://kellylindsayphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2015/7/sweet-sisters-/-beach-session-/-magee-marsh-/-oak-harbor-ohio The title of this session should probably be "The Session That Almost Wasn't"!  True story.  After having to reschedule due to rain (hello...that has been the case with MANY sessions this summer!) I arrived to our session with my camera.  A camera minus a battery :/  Said battery was sitting at home on the charger.  Doh!  Thankfully, Mama was more than understanding.  Her girls were more than patient.  After agreeing on a location closer to home for the both of us, a stop to pick up previous mentioned battery, and about 45 minutes of banging light we ended up with some AMAZING images!  It's always a pleasure to meet with this family.  The girls are high energy and Mom always brings THE cutest outfits.  Thanks for another fun session "L" family and your loyalty!

Erica / Children's Session / Oak Harbor, Ohio Photographer / Northwest Ohio Photographer https://kellylindsayphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2015/7/erica-/-childrens-session-/-oak-harbor-ohio-photographer-/-northwest-ohio-photographer I first met Erica when she was a whee 'lil one and my first Fall in business.  I am beyond grateful that her Mama has continued to contact me each year to document Erica's "birthday session".  This year has been pretty HUGE for Erica as she became a big sister (Congrats to all!).  Mom always has Erica dressed perfectly for our sessions and our most recent session was no exception.  I adored her jean dress!  It was pure perfection for an evening at her Papa's house where we captured beautiful images on his land.  Papa was beyond welcoming and it is clear Erica adores him and he her <3  Enjoy some of my favorite images of 'lil Miss!

Children's Beach Session / Maumee Bay / Oregon, Ohio https://kellylindsayphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2015/6/childrens-beach-session-/-northwest-ohio-children-s-photographer It is always a pleasure meeting up with this family.  The boys are high energy and remind me SO MUCH of my own brood.  'Lil Miss?  She is the perfect combination of sweet and sassy!  As always...Mama did a bang up job of coordinating outfits for her trio.  They were picture perfect for our beach session at Maumee Bay.  We were blessed with a gorgeous evening and thankfully not much wind (ahem, compared to past sessions!).  As with each session with the "K" family we managed to capture a tongue image ;)  Thank you for meeting up with me again Mom and kiddos!  Grandma too!!

Charlie Turns 3 / East Harbor State Park / Lakeside Marblehead, Ohio / Port Clinton, Ohio https://kellylindsayphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2015/6/charlie-turns-3-/-northwest-ohio-child-photographer What a joy it was to get back OUTSIDE for Charlie's 3rd Birthday session!  I first met Charlie and his Mama last year for his 2nd Birthday session.  I was delighted when Mama contacted me again this Spring.  Mom wanted some beach shots in addition to a natural setting.  Together, we decided East Harbor would be the best location.  The evening of our session ended up being colder than normal and it was windy, but these two still ROCKED their session.  The love Charlie and his Mama have for one another is evident from the get go!  To top it off it was clear from our first meeting that his Mama is an AMAZING mama.  That makes my mama heart happy :)  Enjoy a few of my favorite images from their session!
